But for adam no suitable helper was found.

So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep:

and while he was sleeping,

He took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh.

Then, the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man,

and He brought her to the man.

The man said,

"This is now bone of my bones

and flesh of my flesh

she shall be called woman

for she was taken out of man."

rib's near the heart. [dear to him]
made out of his side. [equal to him]



adam sleeps sweetly
cast all his care on God,
a cheerful resignation of himself and all his affairs to his Maker’s will and wisdom.

deep sleep

so the opening of his side might be no grievance to adam

God will take care he shall feel no pain.

quietly does His work.

has adam's happiness at heart. for adam.

makes process not painful.


God's special grace, and special providence. adam's help-meet. eve not left at her own disposal. a humble dependence upon providence.



adams' humble thankfulness with God's gift to him.
knowing. acknowledging God's favour upon him.
